    Test Description

    Cytotoxic Food Sensitivity, Standard List #1

    The sensitized cells react with a specific allergen (purified antigen and additives). The reaction is a combination delayed (Type IV) and immediate (Type I) reaction. Allergic reactions are read under a light microscope at 400x power. The results are graded as negative (same as negative control), plus 1, plus 2, plus 3 and plus 4.

    Standard List # 1 includes:

    Process time: 5 to 7 business days

    Process method: The methodology is a microscopic evaluation of allergic reaction.

    Special instructions: Bio-Center Lab at the Riordan Clinic must be notified 1-2 days prior to collection. Monday through Wednesday blood collections only. Blood specimen must be shipped same day as collection. Blood specimens accepted Monday - Thursday only.

    Rejection causes: Gross Hemolysis; frozen specimen; specimen not received by noon within 24 hours of collection

    Collection Instructions

    Patient prep: 12-14 hour fast, (no food, supplements, medications or tobacco products). Bottled water is the only beverage allowed during the fast. Patient should not brush teeth the morning of the collection.

    Specimen volume: 10 mL ACD whole blood. Draw-tube must be filled to full draw capacity to insure correct blood to anticoagulant ratio of specimen.

    Collection container: Yellow stopper ACD Solution A tube

    Transport container: Plastic transport tube

    Transport instructions: Refrigerate. DO NOT FREEZE! NOTE: tube needs to be wrapped properly to prevent breakage during transportation.
